How to Compress a PDF
Select one PDF file from your device.
Pick a compression strength and render DPI.
Create and download the optimized PDF.
Best PDF Compression Settings
High Quality + 300 DPI: suitable when readability and image detail are most important.
Balanced + 200 DPI: recommended for everyday sharing, email, and general viewing.
Small Size + 100 DPI: suitable when achieving the smallest possible output is the priority.
How Browser-Based Compression Works
The tool renders each PDF page in your browser, converts it to an optimized JPEG image, and creates a new PDF using the original page dimensions. This method works especially well for scanned or image-heavy documents.
Because the pages are rebuilt as images, interactive PDF features such as searchable text, selectable text, hyperlinks, annotations, layers, and form fields are not retained.
Common Errors and Quick Fixes
Password-protected PDF: unlock the document before uploading it.
No meaningful size reduction: use Balanced or Small Size and select a lower DPI.
Output is larger: the original may already be highly optimized. Try a lower-quality combination or keep the original file.
Processing is slow: large scanned PDFs require more browser memory and time to render.
Privacy and File Handling
Your PDF is processed locally in your browser. It is not uploaded to or stored on a server.

The original file may already be optimized. Try a lower quality and DPI, or keep the original.
Can I compress a password-protected PDF?
No. Unlock the document first and then upload it again.
